When faced with the decision to terminate for medical reasons (TFMR), you are presented with difficult choices.  Typically, there is little time to process information and make your decisions. It is hard to seek help when you feel so vulnerable and exposed. You deserve compassionate care and support from a skilled psychotherapist.

Trauma/PTSD

Women's Mental Health

Women's Mental Health

Whether it is one "big" event or a series of "smaller" negative experiences, traumatic events impact our lives. Sometimes trauma can be debilitating and interfere in our daily lives. When this happens, we may refer to it as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Psychotherapy with a trained professional can make a difference.

Women's Mental Health

Women's Mental Health

Women's Mental Health

Hormonal shifts throughout life, including perimenopause and menopause, coupled with the societal and familial demands placed on women impact physical health, emotional wellbeing and relationship satisfaction. It is useful to have a time set aside from everyday life to recieve support from a clinician who "get's it".

Specialized Treatment for Trauma and PTSD

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, referred to as EMDR, is a treatment intervention used to assist people struggling with the effects of trauma. EMDR has been shown to help people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress of traumatic life events. Psychotherapists who utilize EMDR as a part of their work with clients attend specialized, long-term training in order to become certified in providing this intervention.

EMDR is a methodical type of therapy. In the initial few sessions, the therapist will ask questions and gather information about what is going on, so that they fully understand the nature of the problem. The therapist will ask you about your current symptoms and take a trauma history, to find out the different life events that you have experienced that could be contributing to your current symptoms. Kathleen Young, MA, LPC provides EMDR. During your initial visits, Katie will explain the process of EMDR and answer questions about how it works.

Brainspotting

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Brainspotting is an intervention designed to help people struggling with emotional pain, anxiety and trauma. Brainspotting uses eye position and gaze direction, tapping into the neurological link between our internal state and where we look. By intentionally directing our eyes to focus on a spot which either activates or calms our nervous system, we can shift our emotional state and create lasting change.

Brainspotting is a unique treatment approach which differs from many  traditional “talk therapy,”approaches. Finding words to verbalize your traumatic experience is not required. Some people process quietly without speaking and others do so out loud. You can say as much or as little as feels right for you.

Erin Jameson Saltzburg, LCSW is trained in this treatment modality. She utilizes Brainspotting as a therapeutic intervention for some of her clients. Erin is happy to answer any questions you have and explain how the process works.
